What I'm Reading

My summer reads

Yes, it’s October and I’m finally getting around to writing this blog post.

About what I read this summer.

Better late than never, right?

I had a wonderful summer and I got to read so many books. More than I usually do. And they were all quite amazing! Without any further ado, here are a few of my favorites.

the wifeThe Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I loved this book. First of all Greer Hendricks was an editor for twenty years and finally dove into writing with Sarah Pekkanen, who is a very accomplished author. It was a flawless read, you’d never know that the book was written by two people.

Let me just tell you that there are twists and turns that you will NEVER see coming. In the beginning, you think you’re reading a book about a jealous woman who’s obsessed with the younger woman her ex-husband is about to marry. You realize that this story is about so much more than the wives. It’s hard to talk about the book without giving too much away, so I won’t. This book has whiplash worthy suspense around every corner. If you liked Gone Girl, you should check out this book!

Transcend and Epoch by Jewel E. Ann was a deeply touching duet. The author weaves a tale so touching and thought-provoking, I couldn’t put it down. And I couldn’t stop thinking about it long after I finished. Some people dislike reading about love triangles, but the way Jewel wrote these stories, the emphasis was on self-discovery and relationships. This story broaches the topic of reincarnation. Initially, when I was deciding whether or not to read the books, I was turned off by that, but the way reincarnation is weaved into the plot, it’s believable and pulls you deep into the story. I was rooting for all the characters in the books. If you want a book that grabs you and holds you until the last page, grab these two!

my oxfordMy Oxford Year: A Novel by Julia Whelan. Not only is Julia an author, she’s an award-winning narrator. I’ve listened to several books on Audible that she’s narrated, and she does a fantastic job. I was excited to learn that she wrote this book and narrated it on Audible. Instead of reading this book, I listened to it. It was entertaining from the first scene. I was drawn into the imagery, right away I felt like I was walking around Oxford with Ella. At the opening of every chapter, Julia uses a line from a poem, and every one held meaning for the coming chapter. I loved how deeply I felt Ella’s relationship with her English literature professor, Jamie. This book had all the feels. I was happy, and a few pages later I was grabbing tissues. Somehow after finishing this book, I felt smarter 😊 This is a must read!

the likenessThe Likeness: A Novel by Tana French. If you like crime fiction, murder mysteries or thrillers, this is the book for you. What would you do If you went to the scene of a murder and the victim is identical to you? And what if you’re asked to step into the life of the deceased to solve the crime? That’s how the book starts out! Can you imagine living someone else’s life? I won’t give anything away other than to tell you you’ll be drawn in from the first page and left guessing until the very last few pages of the book!

If you want some reading ideas, I hope you pick up a couple of these!
